What we do

Publishing services for independent games

Karl Berg Design ApS publishes video games — industry code 582100 “Udgivelse af videospil” in the Danish CVR register. Here is exactly what that covers, and what it does not.

P-01

Multi-Platform Publishing

PC, console and mobile release planning, storefront setup and launch operations.

  • Release roadmap per platform: builds, store pages, age-rating questionnaires and launch windows
  • Storefront listing copy, capsule art briefs and pricing-strategy workshops with the developer
  • Console submissions prepared with the developer and filed through the account that holds platform access — agreed in writing per title
  • Post-launch patch cadence, sales-period planning and quarterly revenue reporting

P-02

Global Marketing & PR Campaigns

Audience building, press and creator outreach, trailers and festival planning.

  • Positioning, key messages and a campaign calendar built around wishlists and launch
  • Press kit, press release drafting and outreach to media and content creators
  • Trailer and key-art briefs, store-page A/B plans and community channel setup
  • Paid-media plans with budget caps the developer approves before any spend

P-03

Quality Assurance (QA) & Localization (L10n)

Functional and compatibility testing, certification readiness and translation management.

  • Test plans, functional and regression passes, hardware and OS compatibility matrices
  • Certification-readiness checklists against each platform holder’s published requirements
  • Localization management: string export, glossary, vendor coordination and linguistic QA
  • Bug triage in the developer’s own tracker, with severity definitions agreed up front

P-04

Funding, Investment & Financial Planning Support

Production budgets, recoup scenarios and funding-application preparation for studios.

  • Production and launch budgets built with the developer, line by line
  • Recoup and revenue-share scenarios modelled before any term sheet is discussed
  • Preparation of applications the studio submits to public or private games funds itself
  • Any publisher-funded amount is decided per title after evaluation — there is no fixed funding programme

We do not provide investment advice, arrange investments in companies, or offer securities. Budget and scenario work concerns a game project’s costs and revenue, not financial products.

Royalty share & support terms

How a publishing deal is structured

Revenue share and support are negotiated per title. The structure below is not: it is the starting point of every term sheet Karl Berg Design ApS issues.

Publishing agreement principles
TermWhat it means for the developer
IP ownershipThe developer keeps ownership of the game’s intellectual property. A publishing agreement grants a licence to publish for a defined term, territory and set of platforms.
Revenue shareNegotiated per title and written as a percentage of net receipts — what the storefront actually pays out after its fee, taxes and refunds. There is no standard rate card.
RecoupmentOnly costs the publisher actually funds, itemised in the agreement, are recoupable — and only from the title’s own net receipts. A developer never repays a recoupable cost from other income.
Reporting & auditSales and cost statements per reporting period, with the right for the developer to have them checked by an accountant of their choice.
No upfront feesKarl Berg Design ApS does not charge developers a fee to review or publish a pitch.
Exit termsTermination rights, rights reversion and what happens to unrecouped balances are written into the agreement before signature, not after launch.

Net receipts, defined

Gross sales minus the storefront’s fee, sales taxes collected on the buyer’s behalf, refunds and chargebacks. Revenue share is always calculated on this figure, and statements show each deduction.

Recoup first, or split from day one

With recoupment, itemised publisher-funded costs come back first and the split applies after. Without it, the split applies from the first euro and the publisher carries its costs. The calculator shows both.

Console access

Console publishing requires access to each platform holder’s developer programme. Whose account files the submission is agreed in writing per title. We do not claim to be an authorised partner of any platform holder, and certification decisions belong to the platform holder.
